Measure Page Speed via Google Analytics

Google now allows you to measure your sites page speed via Google Analytics.

Page speed is one of the factors Google is using to rank your websites (and keeping your visitors interested), so identifying slow pages is a must!

To take advantage of this feature you just need to update your tracking code (see the below examples):

Asynchronous Code (default)

<script type=”text/javascript”>
var _gaq = _gaq || [];
_gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXX-X']);
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);
_gaq.push(['_trackPageLoadTime']);

(function() {
var ga = document.createElement(‘script’); ga.type = ‘text/javascript’; ga.async = true;
ga.src = (‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ssl‘ : ‘http://www‘) + ‘.google-analytics.com/ga.js‘;
var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
})();

</script>

Traditional Snippet

<script type=”text/javascript”>
var gaJsHost = ((“https:” == document.location.protocol) ? “https://ssl.” : “http://www.”);
document.write(unescape(“%3Cscript src=’” + gaJsHost + “google-analytics.com/ga.js‘ type=’text/javascript’%3E%3C/script%3E”));
</script>

<script type=”text/javascript”>
try{
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker(“UA-xxxxxx-x”);
pageTracker._trackPageview();
pageTracker._trackPageLoadTime();
} catch(err) {}
</script>
